The Genesis - #Taugadi56 Week 1

Let me officially welcome you to the Taugadi 56 Campaign. This is a Covid-19 relief PR campaign aimed at assisting women-led businesses and organisations across the African continent. We had an amazing first week with 5 ladies and their inspiring enterprises. Let's recap:

Meet Sheila Simango and Portia Khumalo. These two young ladies are the cofounders and directors of Grey Crystal South Africa, a registered female-owned black economic empowerment social-enterprise.

#2of56 - Angels Wings Foundation

#3of56 - Spoken and Unspoken Word

Spoken and Unspoken Word is an art company that evolves on the basis of opinions, personal, social, political and educational views. It aims to meet the needs of filmmakers, radio & TV shows, adults and school pupils by producing content/service for or with the above-mentioned spheres.

This is a unique entity that promotes poetry and creative written stories through multiple platforms.

Spoken and Unspoken Word hosts and takes part in various poetry events. However, since the outbreak of #Covid19, artists and poets have lost most if not all forms of income. This calls for innovative ideas around supporting artists and artistic organisations such as Spoken and Unspoken Word.

#4of56 - The Sprightly Seed

The Sprightly Seed's positioning statement is: "Every child has the right to have their basic needs met." Furthermore, the organisation believes that by meeting their most basic food security and nutritional needs, they are given the freedom to fully access other developmental opportunities available. This basic needs perspective allows Founder Jade Orgill and her team to provide a sustainable starting block for benefiting children.

Throughout the #Lockdown period, @thesprightlyseed ran a food parcel campaign that saw many families get meals they otherwise would not have had. This was done in collaboration with the @solidarityfundrsa, which is aimed at helping the country cope with the economic side effects of #Covid19. @jadeorgill notes that this calls for more sustainable means of food production. This being one of their main objectives where they help with building and maintaining food gardens in efforts to promote food security. To date, The Sprightly Seed has had over 60 harvests with over 17 000 beneficiaries.

#5of56 - Nabai Foundation

Education is one of the tools they use to combat this and ensure that women and children are empowered. Moreover, through their Community Development programme, @nabai_foundation has the potential to make a real and positive change in the communities around them. This is one of the key areas of focus at Nabai Foundation and a source of much success for their Empowerment Organization.
